La Vernia is a small town on Highway 87 about twenty minutes east of Loop 1604, sitting on Cibolo Creek in the north-west corner of Wilson County. It has grown steadily as families move out of San Antonio for land, but it remains genuinely rural in a way that Converse and Cibolo no longer are.
For photography that is the whole appeal. Within a few minutes of town there is pasture, tall grass, oak motts, working barns and enough open horizon for a full sunset — and none of the crowding that makes San Antonio park sessions require careful framing.
La Vernia ISD is small and tight-knit, which produces the kind of senior portrait work that leans heavily on personal locations: a family barn, a truck, a field, a stretch of the creek someone grew up on.
