Seguin is an old town by Texas standards, founded in 1838, and unlike most of the region it has kept its centre intact. The Guadalupe County courthouse square is a genuine 19th-century civic space with brick storefronts around it, and that provides something the newer suburbs west of here simply cannot.

The town is also built on the Guadalupe River, which gives it mature pecan groves — Seguin calls itself the home of the world’s largest pecan for a reason — plus river frontage, dams and shaded parkland. Together the courthouse square and the river cover two very different looks within a few minutes of each other.

Texas Lutheran University sits in the middle of town and drives a steady flow of graduation and senior portrait work each spring, alongside the family and wedding photography any established community generates.

The courthouse square and historic centre

The square gives brick, iron, arched windows and a genuine period streetscape — the kind of background that suits engagement sessions, bridal portraits and senior work equally well. It is quiet on weekday evenings, which makes it far easier to work in than a comparable space in San Antonio.

Small civil ceremonies at the courthouse are covered as elopement bookings, typically two to three hours including the ceremony and a portrait session in the surrounding streets and river parks.

The Guadalupe River and pecan groves

Seguin’s river parks give mature pecans, water and open lawn with easy parking. As in Schertz, the pecans turn gold in the first weeks of November, and that short window produces the warmest family portrait light of the year.

The dams along the river add limestone and moving water for sessions wanting something with more drama than a lawn.

Photography in Seguin — common questions

Do you travel to Seguin for weddings and sessions?

Yes, regularly. Seguin is a normal part of the service area along the eastern corridor. Travel is quoted openly as part of the coverage plan rather than hidden inside a package figure.

Can you photograph a courthouse wedding in Seguin?

Yes. Small civil ceremonies are covered as elopement bookings — typically two to three hours including the ceremony itself and a proper portrait session afterwards in the surrounding square and river parks, which are all within a short walk.

Do you shoot graduation photos at Texas Lutheran University?

Yes. Campus sessions cover cap-and-gown portraits and graduation-day coverage. Universities generally set their own rules for commercial photography on campus, which are confirmed before the session date.
