Spring Branch sits along Highway 46 between Bulverde and Canyon Lake, in country that is properly Hill Country rather than suburban fringe. The land here is limestone, cedar and live oak, cut through by the Guadalupe River, and the elevation change is real enough that the views open up in every direction.
The defining asset is Guadalupe River State Park a few minutes west. Bald cypress along clear water, limestone bluffs and open river bottom give a landscape that is genuinely dramatic — and one of the few places near San Antonio where you can photograph water and rock together at scale.
This is elopement and intimate wedding country. Couples who want vows somewhere that looks like nowhere else, with a guest list small enough to move easily, find a lot to work with within twenty minutes of 78070.
Elopements and intimate weddings in the Hill Country
Short-coverage bookings work particularly well here. A two-to-three hour elopement covering the ceremony and a full portrait session in river-bottom cypress produces a gallery that a much longer day at a conventional venue often does not.
The practical constraints are access and permits. State parks charge entry and have their own rules about ceremonies and commercial photography; private ranch properties need the owner’s agreement. Both are settled during planning rather than on the day.
Weather, water and access
The Guadalupe responds fast to rain upstream. After heavy weather the river runs high and brown and low-water crossings can close, sometimes for days. Any session planned around river frontage needs an alternative identified in advance.
Conversely, in a dry summer the river drops and exposes limestone shelf and gravel bar that is not accessible the rest of the year — which produces some of the best frames available here, if the timing happens to line up.
